OLDEST EUROPEAN UNIVERSITY MUSEUM BOLOGNA
As the oldest European university and the home of the world's first student universities, Alma Mater has promoted a cultural initiative to foster the knowledge and study of the student world, creating a museum structure, specifically dedicated to retracing, through eight centuries, the role the student has held within the university institution and society.
The exhibition is divided into five sections (original characters, post-medieval development, the presence of women at the University since the 17th century, political student engagement since 1800, culture and folklore), which summarize the evolution of the student's figure over time in its multiple expressions.
In the MeuS, the outfits include 23 showcases, 18 monitors, about a dozen paintings, numerous graphics, sculptures, objects, books, miniature codes, and environmental reconstructions that showcase aspects and moments of student history.
You will also be able to read about 200 periodicals or unique numbers, consult a collection of ancient student posters coming from different countries, as well as question a database with the data of over four hundred students who graduated from Bologna between 1380 and 2005, to rethink the spread of the movement of universities in Europe in the early centuries of its history and much more...
